From last week's concepts, I had received great feedback about my ideas. Even though I thought my concepts weren't exaggerated enough and that I had only designed all of them as one ring. The concepts were well thought out and drawn in three angles to give my partners enough of an idea to see how I would design my ring in Rhino later. There was repetition in some choices, one that stood out was the waves, but it was a tie between the two versions of the concept (#3 and #15), even though they were cool, they were lacking something to push it further.
In a tie for second-most liked, was the Vial (#12), body wraparound (#5), and Dalí's "The Persistence of Memory" inspired (#4). Personally, I preferred the vial as my first choice, if it is functional like hollowing the ring out and having the bottle top is cut in a way that could hold a cork. When it's made I would want to try and add something inside like an actual vial. However, this depends on the material of the ring, and if they could actually hollow out the inside of the ring. Currently, I'm thinking that plastic might be the only way to go unless resin is an option. But then it might not be a hollowed-out design, rather a finished and filled design.
My second choice was Dali's watch, even though it really plays off of Dali's painting. The way I had it drawn was pretty cool with the melted bit hanging down, however, I'm not sure if I could exactly replicate it in rhino and if they could make it physically without it breaking. From the feedback session, my partners and I had discussed the making of the watch and how it would look, not only would it be a very detailed ring for the numbers on the clock, but also the material in use might cause some trouble in execution. Like if it was done in metal, the edge might be really sharp, the cutting in the numbers or a possible hollowed out clock hand might not be as clean as I want it to be. Especially considering my ring size is quite small because I want it to be a ring I could actually wear from time to time.
For the body wraparound, that one wasn't one of my top choices but I was curious about how it'd look like when I make it in rhino. It definitely came out flatter than I hoped, so I had to add something around it just to play around with the idea. When I made it digital, I realized the way I had it in the drawing didn't really work unless I was going for Slender-man's proportion. So I combined #5 and #9's design in creating two bodies that connected in a way that wraps around your finger like a ring.
Making the digital versions, I found that the Flow option wasn't working for me as well as I wanted it to, possibly because of the tiny bits and pieces I had in my designs. So I had to use the Bend command instead for all three. Looking at how I created the Proof sheet and the quick rhino designs of them, the Vial looks quite simple so I might add something to the bottle itself, like liquid coming out of the edge of the bottleneck, some more organic designs or texture related things? If I were to go with the Dali one, I might fix it and do a more concave or convex design to the band itself. Possibly bend the clock hands outwards, all or just a few more numbers on the clock and play with the number's shapes, and actually try to add the melting falling bits to the bottom/top of the clock.
