Mesh Mashup: Selection and Refinement

The One I Chose:
- Vase + Clock Concept Idea.
- A clock as a base to the vase so that you would know when to water your plant

Changes/Revisions:
- The clock face should have been carved out to act as a more stable plate
- Should actually have a hand since it's a clock, but it can't be in the way of the vase
- Trying the vase with a different style or shape just to see if it would still fit the same way or completely mess up the design
- Maybe having a glass piece between the clock and the surface for the vase, clock hands could be underneath the glass piece to have the flat surface for the vase and space for the hands to move.
- Strong enough glass to hold up the vase, without it being easily breakable with the weight from the vase and water combined
- Possibly having a light-up clock face so that it notifies you
- Cleaner edges to the clock edges

How did the feedback influence my design?
From the feedback I got from the concepts, my peers seem to take a liking in this concept that I have chosen because it seems the most realistic, something useful to many that people would be interested in. With the discussion about the concept it got me thinking about the smaller details like the light-up reminder might be helpful. Specifically, that got me thinking into the plant lighting, which would benefit how the plant grows and this would be a less annoying notification compared to an alarm bell. Another feedback part that influenced the changes I did to my creation would be how they thought of the idea in the first place. I chose to briefly explain parts of the concept and let them give feedback as I spoke about the design just to see if they would think of my idea as they would expect the product to be used. Their feedback included their agreement towards the vases having a plate is a typical choice when they grow plants, to either catch the water as they water the plants or the leaves that may fall off depending on the plant. They agree it is a good concept because they could relate to how watering a plant may easily slip people's minds. I took these feedbacks into consideration that I have listed above in my "Changes/Revisions:" portion of this blog.

How does my creation relate to Remix Culture?
My creation is a combination of a vase and a clock, if you think about these two objects separately, they are existing ideas already. So my design can be considered as a mashup. This creation's of a clock or timer with a vase, the clock being the base that acts as a weight measurer and a timer.
This creation's juxtaposition would be the relation of the clock that could double as a timer and a plate that could
hold the vase in place along with being a weight measurement for how much water you have put into the plant,
along with how long the water will last until you need to add more water. The timer would light up and giving the
plant some growth, it would be a grow light or plant light which is an artificial light source that would improve the
growth of your plant. The timer would give you a signal when the light turns on to remind you to water the plant.

(just realized this a bit too late, probably should have separated the hand of the clock compared to the hand.)

Reverse Engg Object: HD Render and Exploded View

This reverse engineering project was about learning the tools of rhino by creating an object of our choice digitally. Using a calliper and precise measurements, we were to create a replica of a mechanical object to be pretty much exact. With the limitations of no organic or soft objects, no weapons, and must be complex/simple enough to finish within the three-week frame.      I chose an old pair of scissors as my object to replicate. It started out simple, though it was harder than I thought to wrap my head around a pair of scissors than I thought. Maybe it was because I had a year break in between last year's 3D modelling and rendering, but for the smallest things, I couldn't process for hours. This project took at least 11.5 hrs to do. I got stuck in some places like the angled blade, curvature of the handles, and finding the smallest slip-ups that caused an open shape. I know I had drawn some parts separately but when I tried to assemble them and bo...

3D Printed Object: Hybrid Design

Concept Generator: These were the outcomes of what I had for generating concept, some of mine wouldn't fully work when I really thought of how the 3D printer worked. Only the flat coned shape and 3 rings fully worked, and it matched with my groups' the most since their shapes were mainly in a cylinder-like.     Combining Group Objects: I was in a group with Adam and Siwon. Out of our three designs, Adam's had the more sturdy base design so the 3D Printer could hold everything together. Siwon's design was a more decorative angled vase shape, like diamond-cut edges. My design, placing it into Slic3r separately, I could tell the rings immediately didn't look as sturdy as we wanted. So mine has the most changes or reconsideration in how that would end up printing. We had to make sure the rings interlock with the base and each other so that the printer would keep everything into one piece without falling apart mid-print.  Initially, we had Siwon's in t...

4. Parametric Structure Scale Model (Digital) (ii)

Title: Lap Wave Desk Inspiration: Ocean/Wave glass sculptures and The Great Wave off Kanagawa print by Hokusai Difference from typical furniture: A typical lap desk is formal looking, just metal and a plain one colour platform. I wanted something that's less traditional and more sculpture base, one that looks like an art piece and might benefit some users with the wave patterns as holders.  Function: It's a lap desk! Those computer desks are portable and you can put them on your lap to hold your laptop on. Others might use it as a standing desk by putting it on top of a regular table Intended Location: Homes and maybe a less traditional office Intended Audience: Students, office workers, people who need to do work standing or work portable Here are the renders for my lap desk, I made two versions of it. One in an Oak material, one in transparent plastic with a slight blue colour just to make sure it would appear in the render. I made the decision of the transparent one bec...
