Mesh Mashup: Concept Generation

What is Remix Culture?
Well, to me, remix culture is having two or more objects, ideas, or designs put together to create a new thing. Mixing two things to reproduce a new, unique, and intriguing object that people are shocked but also curious about. In the concepts that I made below, it was the first objects that I thought of that might look unique together.
Personally, I love the idea of creating two objects into a mashup because it's like giving consumers something new to be intrigued by. From a marketing perspective, referring to the documentary we watched previously, what can we do as designers to create a product that engages the consumer's attentions towards our designs rather than other designers' versions of it. Creating mashups of two or more designs that appear to be "normal" to a consumer, into a unique, different, curious, new design, it really gives consumers the want to buy the product just because it's different. Though we have to keep in mind that as different and unique our designs become, it has to still hold a certain similarity to the original so the consumers know what they're buying so they would actually want to purchase the designed item.

Concepts:
Wine Glass and Splash as a straw, for a cocktail drink. It's more of a decoration for aesthetically pleasing photos. Also, it might look like a super crazy design for people who are intoxicated already.

Ring and Card Chip Holder, for place holders that you can have easy access to and remember where you put it. Possibly for credit card chips so you can tap and go, or camera SD card chip holder.

Guitar and Microphone, because who has time to hold both a microphone and a guitar. Why not create an all in one? How will it pick up the vocals of your voice from that angle? I'm not sure yet because I don't play the guitar.

Nerdy Rabbit Cup, because who wouldn't love to stare at a rabbit while drinking their coffee half awake? Also, the glasses arms can be like a holder for the spoon or stir straw you use for coffee, or better yet, a holder for the tea bag that keeps floating around when you're just trying to enjoy your burning hot cup of tea in the morning.

Computer + Cup Holder, a place to hold your cup or mug so that coffee can still be near your computer without the issue of it spilling onto your computer, and staying hydrated is important when you're facing technology for a long time

Snail + MailBox, snail mail, something I recall hearing when I was young... this was always how I imagined them. Well, that's a concept that has no real meaning to it but it happened.

Clock and Vase, so that the clock tells you when to water the plants, acts as a timer. Because who keeps forgetting to water their plants consistently.... just me? Oh ok. Guess this concept would only benefit people who forget about their plants' hydration needs.

Spoon + Violin, Haven't decided whether this will be spoon sized or violin sized, but the general shape of the spoon behind the violin might be a cool concept because it gives it more of a shape. Though it might make the sound of the violin be odd.

Glasses + Kitchen Utensils, because why not have a pair of glasses that can be easily repaired with kitchen utensils and have portable utensils on the go. Ever forgot a spoon or a fork for lunch, and you can't seem to find some utensils anywhere in the school? Well, here you go! This concept will be the solution to your problem..... unless you stab your head with a fork.... maybe aim for safer utensils as the glasses arms.

Frying Pan + Lamp Shade + Lightbulb + Pyramid Block, basically it is made with a pan and pyramid as a base and arm for a lamp. I think it might give a creative shape to play around with that, and also to have a bigger "base" for the lightbulb to fit. More sturdy, it keeps the shape of the uniquely made lampshade, a better fighting tool if your house just got broken into... because have you watched Tangled? A frying pan is a very helpful self-defencing tool. For some reason this seemed like a cool concept in my mind, still looks pretty cool as a digital model, not sure if it would stay standing as an actual object though.

Papercraft Research

What is papercraft?      Papercraft, to my understanding, is a paper-made art and craft. Paper is the easy-to-find medium so it is easy for people to use paper to make things with, in our case we would be making 3d objects and understanding how folds, crease, and tabs should be connected in order to hold pieces of paper in place. Reviewing an article: Popupology      The Popupology shop papercraft caught my eyes first. On the Colossal article, scrolling through that article, everything seemed very busy and complex, which I totally love, but it's not really my style. The Popupology shop ones, on the other hand, seemed so simple but so cool that it caught my eyes. Especially the hand-cut out one, how that is just a simple cut-out flipped on the other side and having it pop out with the thumbs looking like it's intersecting, that really stood out to me. Because this reminded me of elementary and how we used to do these DIY pop-up cards for holidays, t...

Papercraft: Final Revision

My final revision of my angel figure looks like this:  Brief Summary:      In total it was a 3-hour process to laser-cut and physically put together everything. This was all made in cardstock, no other paper materials were used. Here was my inspiration (the logo/character digital design), prints of the flat design, rhino file screenshots, prototype, compared to the final.  In Detail Summary and Feedbacks:      It has slightly become a bobblehead paper figurine because of the weight and attachment from the head and the body pieces. The only parts that didn't seem to fully work in the final revision were the burn marks on some of the wings because of the laser cutter.       From the feedback I received and the considerations of the small details from the original design that I didn't put into the prototype, I chose to add the eyes, tail, and a lot of wing pieces. Since I was using detailed cut-outs f...

Reverse Engineering: Progress 1

The object I ended up going with was a pair of scissors for my reverse engineering project. I believe that's do-able for three weeks if I really pay attention to every detail.  Everything seemed simple until I actually started measuring things. I laid out a blueprint of my scissors that I drew... as tried to write out all my measurements the best I could. But realized that I had to do both front and side measurements. Along with all the curved sides, hidden angled chunks that were different measurements on the side and front views.  Another trouble I was having was that sides of the scizzors, because I was working with the scizzors still in tack. I haven't taken it apart yet, so there was only one side of the scissor I can fully see and measure. So I realized that I had been drawing the wrong size of the scizzor. Thankfully I didn't add details  As shown in the picture above, I thought it would have been a great idea to just measure everything from two angles at fi...
